Superb, wide-ranging talk on “Economic Democracy” by the legendary Bob Williams. Worth watching! And it is worth looking at this definition of the economics term “rent seeking.” In short, rent seeking is the effort to obtain benefits for oneself through the political arena. Given that 94% of BC is Crown Land administered by the government, rent-seeking is an important concept for us when thinking about how corporations aim to gain control of BC lands and waters and the resources they contain. This wide-ranging talk addresses diverse issues relating to the BC commons. Thanks to Simon Fraser University and its Vancity Office of Community Engagement.
